February 2008 John's teacher sent us an email saying: "John has the wonderful ability and motivation to enrich his own life which is rare. He will learn and grow and be challenged because he seeks out new information. He challenges himself and extends his learning by reading above grade level books, working harder math problems, and making connections across curriculum. That is the highest compliment a teacher can pay, I believe." At his parent/teacher conference she also said that "every boy wants to be John's friend, and every girl has a crush on him." Oh boy!
June 2007 John turned nine on June 6th. He’s already counting down to when he’s old enough to drive! Speaking of counting, he loves math. When his class did a unit on pioneer days, he got to be the banker because he’s so good at math. He liked that! He likes counting his money and spending it on gumballs and baseball cards. He’s playing baseball in a “kid pitch” league and having a lot of fun. (They’re winning!) April 2007 On Easter Sunday we had an Easter egg hunt and John quickly gathered a basket full of eggs--much more than his sisters. When the hunt was over, he snuck into the basement and a while later came up with a few less eggs. He then said to the girls, "I think there are more eggs hidden downstairs, you'd better go look." That's John: competitive and compassionate. |
February 2008 At Kaitlin's parent/teacher conference, her teacher told us that he would love to have a whole classroom filled with Kaitlins. She is a great student, a hard worker, a great helper and a good friend to her classmates, he told us. Once, when we went to school for a book fair, she ran over to the principal and gave her a big hug. We commented on how nice that was, and she said that she hugs Ms. Drennan every time she sees her. Needless to say, Ms. Drennan lights up when she sees Kaitlin. As do the librarians, lunch ladies and janitors!
June 2007 We have jokingly said that we need to open a birthday present account for all the birthday parties Kaitlin gets invited to. It’s telling that many of the moms call us first to find out when Kaitlin can make the party before they actually schedule it and send invitations out to the others. When her little friends see her, their faces light up as they call her name. Her introverted parents marvel. Her brother is a little jealous. And her little sister is taking notes. April 2007 Kaitlin came home from Sunday School with a drawing of two people: a girl who was smiling and saying "Jesus loves you," and a boy who was frowning and saying "OK, yes." Explaining the picture to us, she pointed said, "that's Howard (her friend's dad). He never smiles. I'm telling him about Jesus. He needs to hear about Jesus." Kaitlin is not shy about talking about Jesus with her friends. And she finds friends wherever she goes. |
February 2008 Sarah is in pre-school three half days a week and she loves it. Mondays and Fridays she will get ready for school with John and Kaitlin, and we have to remind her that she doesn't have school. Then we have to console her because she is so disappointed... She loves to draw, and lately all her doodles are letters of the alphabet... Sarah is our little late night child. If she gets a nap in, forget it! We should call her our Energizer Bunny. She is full of energy all the time. Except that no one would know it because she get's shy for others. So you'll have to take our word on it.
June 2007 Sarah is our singer. She likes to make up songs and sing them into her American Idol happy meal toy microphone. When we scan the radio dial, she’ll yell “that’s my favorite song!” even if she’s never heard the song before. She can be a little possessive of songs, though. Sometimes when Anne joins her in singing, Sarah will say, “No, that’s my song, mommy!”
April 2007 Sarah is very easygoing and such a joy. But when she gets something in her head, she can be a handful! She is currently in the process of potty training. She put up quite a fight at first. (It didn't help that she fell into the toilet.) But she has overcome her fears and now announces with great fanfare when she has to go--and what she's gone! Sarah turned three on April 19th. |
